This property has been home to many prominent families since it was constructed. Cyrus Griest, the original landowner, was the founder of the original village of “Guernsey, PA”, and helped to bring the Gettysburg & Harrisburg Railroad to the area. The mansion & barn were constructed by Andrew Koser in 1885. It then became home to Charles Tyson & his wife, Maria. Charles, and his brother, Isaac, were the only photographers in Gettysburg to capture images of the first days following the Battle of Gettysburg. Years later, O.H. Benson and his family resided on the property. He was one of the principal founders of both 4-H and Junior Achievement. He was also the head of Rural Scouting for the Boy Scouts of America. Inside the barn, the walnut staircase and live-edge bar top were sourced from walnut trees that O.H. Benson planted on the property. The years passed, and the property changed hands many more times. It is even rumored that Mamie Eisenhower (wife of president, Dwight D. Eisenhower) was friends with one of the owners and played the card game, “Bridge”, with a group of ladies here. On August 4, 2018, Wesley Johnson, along with the partnership of his parents, Christopher & Natalie Johnson, purchased the property. They embraced the challenge of preserving the architectural features and interior woodwork, while moving the structures into their current use as an exclusive wedding venue.
